You will find lots to do in Cahirciveen and the surrounding area. Within 16 km of Mannix Point there are about 150 km of spectacular coastline, with mountains, rivers, lakes, the sea and clean, clean Atlantic air.
The impeccably clean on-site facilities include a cosy campers' sitting room with turf fire in the evenings which is renowned for impromptu music sessions. There are no pool tables, no television and no video games. There is a camper's kitchen and dining room with cookers, microwave, fridges and freezer plus a BBQ and picnic area. The laundry has automatic washers and dryer and the washing-up area provides continuous hot water. There are four showers, four toilets, four washbasins and a hairdressing area in the women's room and three showers, four toilets, two urinals and five washbasins in the men's. The office and reception which is open daily from 9am until late provides an extensive range of information for visitors.
Our remoteness gives the town a very special character and atmosphere. We have the highest average temperature in Ireland and air which is cleaned by 3000 miles of Atlantic Ocean. This is why you will find a profusion of both native wild flowers and exotic species reminiscent of Madeira or South Africa or New Zealand.
Many visitors remark on the friendly and helpful nature of the people of this area. The colourful houses and shops reflect the cheerfulness of its inhabitants. By the way, there are four ways of spelling the name of the town: Cahirciveen, Cahirsiveen, Caherciveen and the locally preferred way Cahersiveen. If that is not sufficiently confusing try the original Cathair Saidhbhin.
Caherciveen is a thriving little town. It is the principal shopping and administrative centre for south-west Kerry with excellent restaurants and pubs. Seafood is our speciality, fresh from the Atlantic.
We enjoy living in an area of outstanding natural beauty and hope that you will enjoy it also.
