The site is set on grass and tarmac in the racecourse enclosure, and only six minutes walk from the centre of Warwick. There are a number of good walks to be taken and nearby there's also a 9-hole golf course with driving range and an area for flying model powered aircraft and model gliders. Adjacent to the site are the historic Hill Close Victorian Gardens, which acts as a gateway to the town centre. Nearby Warwick Castle is reputed to be the finest medieval castle in England and an award-winning attraction - it's a full day's visit; The Kingmaker exhibition shows the mighty Earl of Warwick preparing for battle in 1471. You should also visit Stratford-upon-Avon (8m); start with the Heritage Trail or the Shakespeare Story Tour Bus and round it off with the real thing with a visit to the theatre! Island Meadow is a small secluded caravan park, set in rural Warwickshire. The seven acre island, formed by the River Alne and its mill race, provides a quiet and peaceful holiday setting. Mature trees line the banks, and the mill pond with its weir offers good coarse fishing, which is free to guests. All areas are flat and close-mown, and the island is a perfect centre for bird watching, walking, cycling or just relaxing and enjoying the English countryside. All the usual park amenities are provided, including a well-stocked, licensed shop. There is no clubhouse or restaurant, but a short stroll through Mill Meadow and the churchyard of St. John's, where Shakespeare's parents were married brings you to the fifteenth century inn and the village of Aston Cantlow, so named after the de Cantilupe family, who settled here after the Norman conquest. In 1086 the Domesday Book valued the Mill at 8 shillings and 5 sticks of eels. Island Meadow Caravan Park is approximately 5 miles from Stratford Upon Avon. Our caravans have been carefully selected by us to offer you the highest quality holiday accommodation. All our caravans sleep 6 people in comfort. There is a double bedroom, a separate twin bedded room and two berths in the living area. This arrangement ensures privacy in all three sleeping sections - ideal for mixed family use. All are non-smoking. No caravan is more than two years old, and are fully connected to mains services, having a shower, wash-basin and flush toilet in the washroom. They are equipped with a colour television, electric razor socket, refrigerator and microwave oven. The kitchen is well appointed with a full size gas cooker, water heater and a range of cupboards provides ample storage. The spacious living area is fully carpeted, and there is plenty of room for relaxation during the day. There is a built in gas fire in each caravan. There is no additional charge for gas or electricity used. Crockery, cutlery and an adequate range of kitchen utensils are provided, as are pillows and blankets - conforming to the high standards required by the English Tourist Board and British Holiday & Home Parks Association. All you will need to bring with you are sheets, pillow-cases, tea-towels and table-linen. For overseas visitors we can provide these by prior arrangement. Touring : We reserve a two acre area for touring caravans, motorhomes and trailer tents. Each of the spacious 24 pitches has a 10 amp electric hook-up. Lairhillock is a small and friendly, family-owned and run touring caravan park catering for adults only. The park is convenient for the M1, M6, M40 and M69 motorways, providing ready access to Coventry, Banbury, Rugby, Warwick, Royal Leamington Spa and Stratford upon Avon, as well as being an ideal overnight stop for journeys up and down the country. We pride ourselves on a personal and friendly service and aim to make your stay with us as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. The park is set in a quiet, secluded area of outstanding natural beauty, with its rolling hills, meandering rivers, bridle paths and amazing scenery. Marton village church was founded back in 1292. It was rebuilt in 1869 following a devastating fire. The building is dedicated to St Esprit and is thought to be unique in the British Isles. There are also preserved medieval bridges. There are bridle paths, attractive canal tow paths and disused railway line walks. Two and a half miles away is the village of Long Itchington which has a small general store, a Co-Op, a Post Office and a hairdressers. Birdingbury village (2 miles away) also has a Post Office and general store. The market town of Southam (4 miles away) has many facilities, e.g. pubs, small supermarkets, hairdressers, Post Office and other shopping outlets, a swimming pool and several take-aways. Southam is an old cattle driving stop between Wales and London. Charles 1 stayed in the town before the Battle of Edghill in 1642. St James Church has a handsome timber rooof, octagonal spire and 14th centry tower. The town also boasts Dallas International Polo Ground.
