Gwmnanthir Camping,Breacon Beacons National Park, South Wales,

Cwmnanthir is a small, family run camp site on the western borders of the Brecon Beacons. The field based site is situated alongside the Nant Hir river adjacent to coppiced woodlands. Buzzards, herons, red kites and other wildlife complement our free range poultry, sheep and waterfowl. We aim to provide a relaxed non commercial atmosphere for you to enjoy.
The site is an ideal base for walking holidays or short breaks with several dramatic waterfall walks on our doorstep and PenYFan and the Brecon Beacons being a short drive away. The Dan-yr-ogof show caves and Big Pit provide a good day out for families. Mountain bikers have the Taff trail, Afon Argoed park and the entire Brecon Beacons to explore.
We welcome friendly dogs who don't chase ducks! and provide space for you to have a campfire.
On our site we have a clean private wash room/toilet for your use. There are no showers but past campers have used the local sports centre and swimming pool.
We also have a campers kitchen with a sink for washing up, pots and pans, a kettle, a small fridge, and even a microwave.
Fresh free range eggs are sometimes available from our own poultry (foxes permitting!!).
We have space for a campfire and several acres of woodland from with to collect firewood
Local attractions:
There are many sights, experiences, and some beautiful scenery to be appreciated and explored in the Brecon Beacons and surrounding areas. It would be impossible to list everything you might enjoy doing but this is just a taster...
Walkers:
The walk up Pen y Fan takes in the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons and, weather permitting, some stunning views. There is a shorter walk from the Storey Arms (20 minutes by car) or a longer trek around the horseshoe. If you have never visited the Beacons this is the walk you must do!
Henrhyd falls are a National trust site within a 30 minute walk of the campsite and are the tallest falls in Wales. The same walk will take you onto Sarn Helen a roman road that travels 160 miles through the heart of Wales.
I can also recommend a longer walk taking in 4 waterfalls starting from Pontneddfechan (or for the braver from the campsite).
Cyclists:
Perhaps the most famous cycle route in Wales is the Taff trail, a 55 mile track traveling between Cardiff and Brecon. This route can be picked up in Merthyr Tydfil which is 20 miles from our site.
Afan Argoed forest park is home to 4 world class single track mountain bike trails and is about a 20 minutes drive away.
Kids:
Dan-yr-ogof show caves are a 5 minute drive away as well as being the largest show cave complex in Western Europe, also has a dinosaur park, iron age village and shire horse centre.
Big pit is a mining museum in Brynmawr (a 30 minute drive away) where you get to go 300 feet underground into a coal mine (for free!!!).
Cefn-yr-Erw is a primate rescue centre (a 5 minute drive) which welcomes visitors.
Rates: £5 adults £3 Children per night.
