Exe Valley Caravan Site

Bridgetown, Dulverton, Somerset, Exmoor

Description

Exe Valley Caravan Site can be found in the stunning surroundings of Exmoor National Park in the village of Bridgetown. Our adults only site is close to the small town of Dulverton in glorious Somerset. This natural location has every pitch beside the River Exe or the sparkling mill stream whether you are camping, touring in your motorhome or looking for a caravan birth in a perfect countryside setting.

Every pitch is fully serviced and has ample space and enjoys its own section of the bank beside the fast-flowing clear water of the River Exe or the mill stream. A further acre of our land provides for a leisurely stroll up to our weir. We offer free fly fishing on site. The area is ideal for fishing, horse riding, pony trekking, walking (easy or challenging), biking, or simply relaxing.

The campsite has a free heated shower and toilet block, a site shop, a laundry, a licenced site shop, TV hookups and a public telephone. We also offer free Wi-Fi, a chemical disposal unit as well as a motorhome service point. Feel free to use the dishwashing area, the microwave and the free fridge freezer block as you please and do take advantage of our recreation area by the weir.

Our location is adults only and can be found nestled in an enchanting woodland valley alongside the meandering River Exe. You will find peaceful walks, a myriad of flora and fauna and spectacular vistas across this unique area of the country. Explore the secret combes that surround the site, discover trickling streams and keep a watch for Red Deer which run freely across the moor. We have a dog exercise area which is 300 yards long and guests have free flying access to 600 yards of the bank of the River Exe.

The local area has so much to see. You will find pools and waterfalls, Exmoor ponies, unspoilt villages, National Trust properties and beautiful gardens. The scenic North Devon coast and Lorna Doone Valley are also within reach. The local inn opposite serves evening meals. The carefully maintained campsite covers 4 acres of level grass and hardstandings between the River Exe and our own mill stream.

We live on-site in Bridgetown Mill, which dates back to the 17th Century. Once a grain and flour producing mill, it was last used for milling during the Second World War. The building is in good repair and much of the mill machinery is in working order. The mill is listed as being the largest on Exmoor. Dulverton and Dunster are two villages close by, which support a variety of high-quality shops in beautiful old market settings. They both enjoy good tearooms and restaurants with Dulverton positioned by the River Barle and Dunster lying beside its famous castle maintained by the National Trust.

The seaside town of Minehead is a bustling town with an indoor swimming pool, small harbour and interesting shops. It is also home to the West Somerset Railway which runs restored steam trains the 20 miles between Bishops Lydeard (near Taunton) and Minehead. The coastal scenery is stunning and a return trip makes a memorable day out. From Minehead travel through the picturesque village of Porlock which is well worth a visit and on to Lynmouth and Lynton: the view of Lynmouth from Countisbury Hill is breathtaking. Take the water operated Cliff Railway up to Lynton and walk to the Valley of Rocks, an outcrop of strangely shaped rocks which rise above the cliffs and are full of legends.

Further along the coast are the beaches of Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton which are all voted Best Beaches and home to surfing, swimming, sand yachting or just paddling. There are golf courses at Minehead and Saunton and the course at Westwood Ho! is the oldest in the country.
