Waveney River Centre is situated in the very heart of the attractive Waveney Valley at the southern end of the Norfolk Broads, close to the market town of Beccles and only a short journey upstream from Oulton Broad. The historic city of Norwich and the popular resorts of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft are all within 30 minutes drive. Afloat or ashore, if you enjoy being close to the water then Waveney River Centre has something to offer. Our touring and camping site is situated adjacent the leisure centre and overlooks the visitor marina and River Waveney. Showers, toilets, launderette and wash up area were all new for 2004 (showers are coin-operated and cost £1). Please note that additional charges apply for use of the leisure centre (£3 adults, £2 children). Family passes are available (2 adults and up to 4 children) - £25 per week or £15 per short break. During peak periods it is occasionally necessary to limit swimming sessions to 1/2 hour. Serviced pitches : These pitches are suitable for touring caravans, trailer tents, motor homes or tents requiring electrical hook-up. Pitches are 7.5m wide, enough to accommodate caravan, awning and car and are mostly located on high ground overlooking the marina and river. All the serviced pitches are numbered. Tent pitches : The main camping area overlooks the marina & river and is located close to the shower blocks, launderette and leisure centre. A smaller, more secluded, camping area is also available and is considered particularly suitable for small parties of up to 5 tents. Facilities : Elsan disposal point. Facilities : Waveney Inn - Originally known as Marsh House (1879), the Waveney Inn has developed over the years from a small riverside pub to today’s family-friendly bar and restaurant complete with live entertainment and games room. The Waveney Inn is under new management for 2005. Mariner’s Stores - The Mariner’s Stores is currently being rebuilt for the 2005 season and will stock chandlery, fishing tackle, general groceries and gifts. For 2006, there will be two luxury holiday apartments above the shop featuring glorious views over the marshes and River Waveney. Children’s Play Area - Is located next to the Nordic Leisure Centre Nordic Leisure Centre - Features an indoor heated swimming pool, spa and sauna located in an attractive building with delightful views over the marina, river and marshes. There are two large sinks for hand washing. Activities : Day Launch Hire - In addition to two traditional day boats, we are introducing three brand new day launches for 2005, with galley, WC and cabin below-decks. Rowing boat, canoe & cycle hire - Walker Bay rowing dinghies are available for hire, as well as canoes and bicycles. Buoyancy aids are provided when hiring any of our boats. Fishing - The Norfolk Broads are famous for fishing opportunities and the River Waveney is particularly popular with pike, roach and bream fishermen. To fish on the Broads, you will need to purchase a rod fishing licence from the Environment Agency which is available from every post office in England & Wales, via telesales 0870 1662 662, or online at www.environment-agency.gov.uk. If you are touring East Anglia, we would like to invite you to spend some time at our tranquil setting alongside the River Wissey, which is ideal for fishing, boating or just a relaxing stroll along the river. Pitches are level grass standing and electric hook-up points are available by pre-booking. Small but modern toilet block with free hot water and shower plus separate disabled facilities and outside wash-up area. There is no shop on site but directly opposite the site entrance is a garage with a food mini market. In the nearby village of Stoke Ferry there are two public houses, A post office, take-aways and a small shop. Relax by fishing along the River Wissey! Whether you are a keen fisherman or a beginner, providing you have a rod licence, you can fish along the riverbank at no extra charge. The River Wissey had a good verity of fish including perch, roach and pike. You can also fish our lake at an extra cost of £3.00 per day. Narborough Trout Lakes are nearby where, if required, you can hire all the necessary equipment to catch trout for your barbeque. If this sounds too strenuous for you, you can buy smoked or fresh fish from their on-site shop. Ideally situated for visiting the historic sites and market towns of Norfolk including walks through Thetford Forest. Mid way between Kings Lynn and Tetford on the A134.
