Situated 1.5 miles east of Freshwater Bay on A3055 (military Road) and boasting stunning natural views to the chalk down land valley and Compton Bay, Compton Farm is the ideal location for a family holiday or short break. The farm dates back to 1086 and has been farmed by the present family for many years. Sheltered in a down land valley on National Trust land (which has Sites of Special Scientific Interest status)guests can take a variety of walks over the Downs, to enjoy stunning views, and the wonderful wildflowers such as the pyramid orchid. COMPTON FARM CARAVAN SITE In a fold facing the Downs, we have a small site for our twelve well equipped caravans. Each is fitted with a full size cooker and fridge, shower and flush toilet. No TV's are provided. There is plenty of space for car parking nearby and a large field for games. COMPTON FARM CAMPSITE Situated in a well drained field with facilities which include a modern toilet block with showers, and hot and cold washbasins. Free hot water for washing up and a small laundry. ACTIVITIES FOR THE CHILDREN Our site is peaceful and quiet, and in not commercialised at all. It is very much a traditional campsite with many of guests who visted as children themselves, bringing back there own families. Children can have good old fachioned fun, with old tractors to play on, ducks to feed, eggs to collect, and the space and freedom to fly their kites, and ride their bikes around the farm. The nearby beach is sandy, safe and clean. Dinosaur fossil footprints are even visible at low tide! FOR THE MORE ADVENTUROUS Bring your surf and body boards, for some excellent surfing on nearby beaches! For the golfers amongst you enjoy your round, whilst taking in some of the most spectacular views you will ever see on any links! Handgliding, paragliding, windsurfing, and horse riding are also available nearby. Only a quarter of a mile away is Compton Bay the last unspoilt sandy beach of the Island; safe for children and swimming, and facing south it catches all of the sun. Our idyllic family owned holiday park is situated within 14 acres of lush secluded grounds, surrounded by beautiful open countryside. We are located in the valley of the Stenbury and St Martin’s Downs, which is a designated area of outstanding nature beauty, an ideal spot for bird watching and horse riding. For walkers and cyclists, there are also an excellent network of footpaths and cycle paths, which can we accessed within minutes. Alternatively, if you prefer relaxing on the beach, we are only a short car journey to the famous coves and beaches of Ventnor, where you can explore the fascinating Victorian architecture and it botanical gardens – which due to the resort’s aspect of a steep, south-facing cliff it has earned the reputation as being England’s Madeira, you can also enjoy sunbathing, swimming, sailing, windsurfing and hang-gliding. The villages of Sandown and Shanklin are only 10 minutes away by car and the quaint village of Godshill less than 5 minutes away. There is also an extensive network of footpaths and cycleways which can be accessed within minutes from the park. For the explorer, you can travel around the coast by car, or use the islands’ excellent transport links, viewing breathtaking scenery, where you will also find a haven of outdoor activities, local crafts, tea rooms and attractions. On-site Amenities SHOP: Is open from April to October, and provides a selection of basic provisions, which Include fresh bread, milk and daily papers. In the height of the season, we also bake fresh bread, croissants and pastries. There is also a selection of camping equipment, gifts and toys available. We also offer a freezer pack facility. CAFÉ Open according to demand from Spring Bank Holiday to second week in September. Eat in or takeaway service available. Breakfast and Evening Menu available, offering home cooked food with local produce at reasonable prices including vegetarian options. BAR & FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT ROOM The bar and family entertainments room with adjoining games room is open from May to the end of September and overlooks the swimming pool, and provides nightly family entertainment during Spring Bank Holiday week and the last week of July to the end of August. The laundrette has coin operated washing machines, driers and irons. There is also a large sheltered outdoor heated swimming pool, and small toddlers’pool, these are open from spring Bank Holiday week to early September. We also hold swimming galas and scuba diving lessons during peak season. There is also a children’s play park and crazy golf activities. N.B. No park amenities are available before April or after October. Static Caravans The park was originally part of the grounds of the nearby historic Appuldurcombe house. The old walled orchard was designed by ‘Capability Brown’ and now contains our 40 static caravans and the Orchard Lodge in well tendered grounds and a traffic-free area. There is NO access for cars into the orchard, but a carpark is adjacent to this area and trolleys are provided to transport your luggage to your caravan. Please ask for assistance if needed. You may choose from either 4 or 6 berth caravans, varying from luxurious to modest types to cater for everyone’s requirements. They are all complete with toilet/showers, fridges with freezer compartments, gas or electric heaters, toasters, microwaves in certain units, cookers with grills and colour TV’s, some have teletext, DVD players or video players depending on the grade of caravan. Orchard Lodge The lodge is situated within the old walled orchard, it consists of one double and one twin bedroom, and is centrally heated and fully inclusive. The bathroom has a basin, toilet, walk-in shower and grab rail. The lounge has a colour TV with DVD and is combined with the dining area and kitchen which have a spacious open plan design for easy access. The kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, toaster and kettle, all utensils and crockery are provided. Level pathways surround the lodge for easy access. Folly East and Folly West Apartments The apartments are very light and spacious. Both are centrally heated and fully inclusive, and are conveniently situated above the bar/entertainment area. Both are suitable for upto six people and have one double, one twin and one bunk-bedroom. The bathroom has a full size bath with mixer shower taps, a basin and toilet. There is a full sized modern kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle, all utensils and crockery are provided. Both have spacious lounges with colour TV and DVD. The dining area is situated in the lounge of Folly East and in the kitchen of Folly West. Touring & Camping The main Touring and Camping area is situated within sheltered grassland, with upland views of Stenbury Downs. Adjacent is the new Meadow area which has a selection of hardstanding pitches with shared water point (between two pitches) also Superpitches. (Supplements apply for these pitches).With the added feature of a small babbling meandering stream running alongside this area, connecting to a meadow with tranquil seating and a pond full of natural planting and wildlife. All the pitches are marked and easily accessible by hard road access. There is also the Front Orchard which as a tranquil area set aside for walkers and hikers and is situated within mature fruit trees. Camping Toilet Block and Access friendly bathroom Toilet block, with very light and modern facilities, complete with spacious free showers, separate washing area, hand and hair dryers. There is also an access friendly bathroom which is situated in the same location and has a bath, toilet with grab rail and low level wash basin. The Orchards is a really excellent, medium sized, family park. It is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty with breathtaking views of rolling countryside and the Solent shores. There are 175 touring pitches for tents, touring caravans and motorhomes and there are 65 holiday caravans for hire. The touring pitches have hook-up electricity and are water serviced. Some pitches have hardstandings. They are located in 3 paddocks, some level, some gently sloping. The Holiday Caravans are located in a separate area, surrounded by shrubs and trees and linked by a series of pathways. Many have views across the countryside. There are 4 and 6 birth caravans. All have heating, toilet, shower, colour TV, DVD player, and microwave. Most have double -glazing and central heating. Our facilities include an outdoor heated swimming pool (open late May–early Sept), an indoor heated pool with poolside coffee shop, shop, take-away, children’s play area, pool tables, TV room and table tennis. We have a new Facilities Centre, which has been extremely well received by guests. It has shower and washbasin cubicles, toilets, washing up area, laundry, full accessible facilities and a drying room for campers, all with the luxury of under-floor heating. 2011 saw the introduction of WiFi on all of the park and a new children’s play area. There are many attractions within easy reach of The Orchards. The scenic harbour of Yarmouth is close by, bustling with boats, cafes, shop sand art galleries. A fifteen minute walk west of the harbour brings you to Fort Victoria, with attractions including an aquarium, planetarium and model railway. Chessil pottery where you can make your own pot, is close by. Osborne House, the summer residence of Queen Victoria is at East Cowes. There are more than 500 miles of marked footpaths and cycletracks on the Isle of Wight. Walking, cycling, fishing and birdwatching are just some of the all year round activities that you can enjoy here. Thorncross is a Quiet one acre site in the small hamlet of Thorncross, one mile from the village of Brighstone. It lies half a mile from the coast, in an area of outstanding natural beauty close to the downs and the sea. The site is ideally situated for those Camping and Caravanning Club members wishing to explore the many and varied attractions in this lovely part of the Isle of Wight. The Isle of Wight Cycle Route passes by the front door and walkers can take the Coastal Footpath, which runs, around the entire Island or walk the many other excellent forest and downland trails. We currently do not have washrooms or toilets so the site is best suited to motor homes or touring caravans. However, campers are accepted if they have suitable chemical toilet facilities. Children are most welcome but it is important to note that we do not have designated children’s play area. Farm access is restricted for their safety. The well-spaced pitches are equipped with electric hook ups and water. There is a chemical disposal point and waste bins are provided on site. We allow well-behaved dogs so long as they remain on leads at all times. Dog owners are required to ‘clean up’ and to ensure their pets do not disturb other campers. The site has wide ranging views especially to the north and east. Sunrise over the downs can be most impressive for the early risers! If you walk south for 0.5m to the cliff at Barnes’ high you will see spectacular sunsets to the west beyond Tennyson down and the Needles. We have our own 2.5 acre day ticket Coarse fishery that is open to the experienced angler who will be expected to be fully equipped and abide by the fishery rules. One of the few unspoilt, non-commercialised coastal sites with unpolluted sea air, situated on the beautiful s.w. coast, with easy access to our sandy beach and picturesque views of our Chine and Brighstone Forest. The whole area is ideal for cycling, fishing, fossil hunting - a walkers paradise. An idea family holiday for Camping or Self-catering in our static caravans or converted barns. We are a small, family run working farm, having many unusual, friendly animals including: Llamas, kune-kune pigs, goats, pony, horse, water buffalos, donkey, poultry etc The camping and caravan site lies in an area which has been designated "an area of outstanding beauty" as is much of the Downs. Tents, motor caravans and touring vans are accepted. The camping site is level and overlooks the sea. Cars are parked beside the tents or caravans. access to the sea is just a short walk (100 yards) down the coastal path. Our shower block comprises of: FREE showers, shaver points, wash basins and toilets. (heating in main blocks) Our small launderette comprises of: a coin operated washing machine, tumble driers, spin drier and ironing facilities. We have dishwashing sinks and laundry sinks also for your use with free hot water and a coin-operated bath as an added luxury. The Static Caravans are set on a plateau where the Brighstone Life Boat Station was situated many years ago. All of the Caravans have good views of the Sea and Chine, with very easy access to our sandy beach (see Brighstone Bay). We have 11 Static Caravans on the plateau Ranging from new to oldest approx 9 years, there is also wooden walkways running alongside the Statics. Parents note: (cliff edge) for your peace of mind there is a fence in front of the caravans. DOGS - we do take dogs, but only in 2 of our Static's. In the Play area there is a play boat, trains, hay-cart, slide, see-saw, rope-bridge, stepping stones, 4 swings & a flat tyre swing. There is a small area for football and cricket etc. From the play area you can also view into our Chine, where the water buffalo, goats & horses are grazing. Grange Farm Brighstone Bay, is situated on the South West coast of the Isle of Wight, approximately 6 miles from Freshwater Bay to the west, and 10 miles from Ventnor to the east. The picturesque village of Brighstone lies half a mile to the north. The whole area is idea for fishing, fossil hunting and cycling, a walkers paradise.
