One of the most impressively located sites on the network, only a short walk from the old town, it is almost in the shadow of the ancient Abbey, with superb mature trees screening it. You can explore the old town on foot - there are many historic buildings, and interesting walks from the site, as well as some excellent museums. On Wednesdays and Saturdays you can track down the odd bargain or two at the market. You can walk the Battle Trail too, commemorating the famous battle in the Wars of the Roses (1471). You can also take a boat cruise on the river, leaving from the Old Mill to explore the Avon. A marvellous touring centre, the Cotswold villages of Broadway, Winchcombe and Moreton-in-Marsh are within easy driving distance as are the Malvern Hills and the Forest of Dean. Set in a picturesque location - a short walk away from the world famous Slimbridge Wetlands Centre, right alongside the Gloucester-Sharpness ship canal with the view of the Cotswold Hills in the background. Right next door is the Tudor Arms pub & restaurant, opposite is Slimbridge Boat Station & Cafe where boats and bicycles can be hired. Good fishing and easy cycling along the canal towpath. Walkers can enjoy not only the canal but also the Severn Way which runs alongside the park or Cotswold Way 5 miles away. Also ideally placed to watch the famous Severn Bore with many viewing spots close to the park. The Meadow : The Meadow has electric hook-ups on both hardstandings and grass pitches and is now open all year round. Suitable for all types of tourers and camping in tents. You have plenty of space and we keep a large open area in the centre of the meadow. This area backs onto the canal and has lovely views over the fields towards the Cotswold Hills. The Old Orchard : The Old Orchard area is an Adults Only area all year round. This is all hardstandings with electric hook-ups suitable for caravans, motorhomes, camper-vans, and RVs. Moreton-in-Marsh whose main street is part of the Roman Fosse Way, nestles in the heart of beautiful Cotswold countryside. This attractive town with many interesting shops, is perhaps today most famous for the Tuesday street market. That, together with over twenty pubs, restaurants and cafes may be reached on foot from the site. Lechlade is where the River Thames begins its working life, the Neptune-like statue of Old Father Thames casts a majestic eye over St. John's Lock, the highest navigable point of the great river. From here, the Cotswold stone quarried at nearby Taynton was shipped down river to London for the rebuilding of St Paul's Cathedral. The lock is still well used, but today's traffic is largely pleasure craft seeking the quieter reaches of the Thames. Small boats can be hired by the hour from Riverside Boatyard. The Campsite is just over the bridge and is set in 3.5 acres of level grassland with good access from the main road (A361).
