The Holiday Park is located on Mersea Island which is peaceful, unspoilt and famous for its oysters and boating/yachting facilities and offers camping, touring and static holiday homes available for hire. Nearby is the town of Colchester, the oldest recorded Roman Town in the country with museums, a Norman Castle and an exceptional shopping centre. The town attracts many long distance travellers and offers a host of leisure facilities. Holiday Homes : Many guests prefer to rent one of our three bedroom, luxury holiday homes for their holiday. These are all up-to-date, well appointed and situated in the prettiest parts of the Park. One of our homes is specially modified for wheelchair users. Some residents love Mersea Island so much that they decide to rent a permanent site for themselves and purchase their own holiday home from our on site showroom. Fishing : Four well stocked lakes offer the angler a fine facility which is rarely matched. The lakes are stocked full of top quality Carp, Bream, Tench, Roach, Rudd, Perch and Gudgeon. Fully managed, a permanent fishing warden ensures that the fish and their environment are always maintained to the highest standard. Rods tackle and bait can all be bought or hired from the shop. Golf : Waldegraves has both an 18 hole pitch & putt golf course and a new 10 bay undercover driving range, which is floodlit for those who need their golfing fix. The course offers challenges to both experts and beginners alike. We also have a selection of golf accessories, plus club hire. Beach & Watersports : Boat access to the sea is made easy by Waldegraves' own hard slipway, which is suitable for hand or vehicle assisted boat launching. Water, for most craft, is deep enough approximately ± 3 hours either side of high water and is suitable for sailing dinghies, jet skis, speedboats and windsurfers. Buoyed zones ensure that speedboats and jet skis do not stray into bathing areas. Especially designed for rowing boats, inflatable boats and model boats, the Boating Lake is surrounded by picturesque trees and mown, grassy banks. It offers hours of fun for children and families who just like messing about in boats. Swimming Pool : The heated open-air pool is a firm favourite with all ages. Divided into a toddler and a parent and a main pool, even the youngest of swimmers can enjoy the water. Safety is our paramount consideration. Who would not love to have a holiday home in a "village" atmosphere in the heart of the Essex countryside. As Riverside you will find a warm welcome amidst immaculate facilities in a friendly neighbourhood. Subletting is not allowed, so you can enjoy peace and tranquility without unknown strangers next door. Dogs are welcome and can use the special dog walks provided, however they must be kept on a lead on the Park and any accidental fouling cleared up. Situated in 24 acres alongside the River Crouch, seven miles north of Southend, the Park is licensed for 175 static holiday homes and up to 50 tourers or tents from March 1st to November 1st annually. All homes have full mains services and a 13amp electric supply, cooking is by Calor gas. Grass is always well maintained by the staff, but many owners prefer to tend their own gardens. Small shop onsite for essentials. Tourers and Rallies enjoy the same welcome and high standards on our adjacent 5 acre field and have 10 amp electric supply on the DeLuxe pitches. Riverside was especially created not to be a "commercialised" Park with clubhouse, entertainments etc. Consequently, the atmosphere of a friendly "weekend and holiday retreat" is maintained. The toilets are always cleaned to a high standard and a well equipped laundry is provided. The adjacent Ferry Inn and Wardroom both serve excellent snacks and have first class restaurants, where Sunday lunches are especially recommended. The Park has its own slipway and moorings for small craft and the Essex Yacht Marina is next door to the Park, making Riverside ideal for water activities such as windsurfing, fishing, paddling or simply messing about on the river. The ferry to Burnham-on-Crouch and the boat trips to see the Seals gives everyone a chnace to get onto the water. The nearby Clements Hall Leisure Centre is one of the finest in the country with facilities for almost every sport imaginable. There are many pleasant walks on seawalls and footpaths, several ending up in "Olde Worlde" Inns, all serving excellent food. Rural Essex has a wealth of history to be explored. Canewdon church tower provides wonderful views and the village stocks and pillory are well worth a visit. Lion Creek Nature Reserve, 5 minute walk away, offers the opportunity to study local wildlife and a large variety of birds in all peace and tranquility.
