With the fortunate location of Meelmore Lodge just a short walk from the higher Mournes, the facilities available at our campsite are ideal for family holidays and those taking part in The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
The main campsite consists of over two acres of land and has been used in the past for the Surf Mountain Mourne Mountain Marathon in 2002.
The campsite has running water facilities and also has the advantage of being situated right at the foot of the Mourne Mountains.
We would like to stress that our campsite is predominately used for families and we would encourage other campers to be courteous of this. Meelmore Lodge retains the right to remove anyone from the grounds, due to complaints arising from their behaviour, by other campers and/or staff.
Large groups are preferred to book in advance, although booking is not essential for small groups.
Payment is made in the coffee shop on arrival. (If you arrive late, payment must be made in the morning). If the hut on the campsite is open, payment can be made there.
If nobody is about to make payment to, we live further up the road at number 70. (Turn left out of the car park entrance and we are the fourth house on the left).
Caravans : The campsite unfortunately has no electrical link up facilities suitable for caravans, however, we are pleased to accommodate those who wish to stay in their caravans.
Coffee Shop : With the coffee shop holding around 22 people this is the perfect place for a relaxing snack after a long walk in the Mournes. By sitting down to a nice mug of coffee you can see a wonderful view of the Hare’s Gap. Also, in the corner of the Coffee Shop, a CCTV monitor, monitors the car park.
The toilet and shower facilities are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The showers run on tokens available in the coffee shop for £1. They last around 8 minutes, and are sure to warm you up after a cold walk in the Mournes. For the campers, the small hut provides cold running water. Our showers and toilets are wheelchair accessible.
Meelmore Lodge is ideally situated on the foothills of Slieve Meelmore, which forms part of the Mourne Mountains in south Down. The facilities at Meelmore Lodge are perfect for those interested in walking in the Mournes, both professionals and amateurs alike!
